We decided to wait and see what turns up at our local shelters and Craigslist and since the latest Guinea Pig raige at Petsmart($10 off Guinea Pigs), I'm sure some will be put on Craigslist or at shelters. But I've got a few questions:

1: If the Guinea Pig has been around other Guinea Pigs, will it still need to be quarantened?

2: Will it take more time to tame the adopted one if she came from a home where the kids were neglectant of the pet?

3: Is there special food I need to give them even if they aren't special need?

4: Should I give it a quick bath and groom before letting her meet the others?

1 yes, you have to quarantine the new pig from your current pigs to protect the pigs you already have, minimum 20 days

2 probably not, but it depends on the age and temperament of the newly adopted pig...... a nervous, jumpy, untrusting pig, especially if young, likely can't really be tamed. Stewie has been living with me over a year and he jumps and runs every time he sees me.

3 no, but they should be on a high quality diet anyway.... oxbow or KM timothy hay or alternate grass hay, oxbow or KM timothy-based pellets, and good vegetables, especially green leaf lettuce, organic when possible

4 no, but you might want to treat for mites (or go to a vet to treat for mites) with ivermectin during three-week quarantine, especially if they show any signs of skin problems, especially excessive scratching. There are several threads here and on guinea lynx discussing it.

I got Sandy at 8 weeks old, she's just now warming up to me(not squirming, running) when I go to get her after 3 years.

I'm trying to get Oxbow at a smaller, live-animal, selling pet store since we cannot order online and petsmart is really expensive.
