I have a neutered male guinea pig just under a year old. I just noticed he has a little dry, flaky skin on one area of his back and another flaky patch on his shoulder. He is itchy and tries to chew at the spot on his back when I touch it. He has some flakes throughout his coat as well, but not to the extent of these two areas. Otherwise he looks good and seems healthy.
I know GPs can get mites & fungal infections.. does this sound like either? The skin itself looks okay- not pink or thickened, etc.
I use pelleted paper litter, hay, and fleece blankets. He eats a mixture of grass hays (unlimited), a wide variety of veggies (as much as he wants, typically about 1.5cups daily), and Oxbow Cavy Cuisine pellets (limited- about 1/4 cup every other day).
I have revolution & have used it for rats with mites & lice in the past. I know it can be used for pigs but I don't know what the dose is. I haven't had any issues with mites or lice in over 3 years, so I'm wondering if it's truly that. When my rats had mites it was from carefresh bedding and I haven't used it since. |

| Try ivermectin for mites. When dosed correctly, it's very safe and effective. I don't have any experience with other skin disorders, so I guess I've been lucky, but other people can give you advice. |

| I've heard Revolution can be used, personally I use Ivomec 1% used topically. You'll need to weight your piggie and look up the weight=measurement. http://www.guinealynx.info/parasites.html has information reliable on dosing. |

| If you have other pigs, they need to be treated too. |
