Hello everyone. As you may know, my dear Manteiga passed away this week. This leaves my other girl, Gwendolyn, all by her lonesome. I decided to start looking for her cagemate now since I know the process can take a while. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Manteiga can be 'replaced', but I'm trying to keep Gwennie's needs in mind.
I've had peruvians in the past and would really like to have another. I looked around, but didn't see any listed. I'd be willing to adopt a male and have him neutered so he could be with Gwennie.
If anyone knows of an available pig, please let me know. Transportation could probably be arranged for out of state cavy.
Here is Gwendolyn- my girl who needs a buddy to keep her company:

Wow! She's a cutie! Any neutered boar would love to be with her.
No luck with Petfinder, eh? |

| No luck yet, I think I have to call each place since I know they don't list all the animals usually. |

| She is so cute! Are you going to the Boston Pignic? There may be some adoptables there. Or people who know of them. |

I have decided to adopt this little guy:
He is in Connecticut, but lucky for me Margery is headed down there this weekend and she offered to pick him up for me! I'm still looking for a long haired piggy, but I just couldn't resist little Sammy the black Teddy. I'm planning on neutering him so he can be with Gwennie. The owner was like 'gee, you can neuter them?'. Lol, yep. |

I decided to adopt him- he's just too cute to resist! Margery will pick him up. :)
I'm still looking for a long haired piggie, as well. |

Margery brought him over earlier tonight. He's my first boar. After being a little nervous he settled down and chilled out on my chest... and farted. Blech. Haha.
I want to change his name from Sammy to something else. Any ideas? |

I'm terrible with names. But he sure is a cutie.

Just like a guy, eh? Some things don't change across species. |

I was thinking of:
Soot
Coal
Charcoal
Mr. Bean
Shadow
Shade
Those were what came to mind when I saw him. No matter what you chose, congrats! :) |

Alright, update on the long haired piggy search. I have been talking to the woman who posted this link http://boston.craigslist.org/nwb/for/1119124252.html
It's really hard to resist a peruvian himi (and the abby is cute, too). As I understand it, there should be more boars than sows in a herd, so putting three males and a female together wouldn't work. Plus, the guinea pig I got on Easter, formerly known as Sammy, is a boar who I'm told has not gotten along with other boars very well in the past.
I'm thinking I will get these two and just have them in a separate cage. As it is now, this is my cage:
So I'm thinking I'll just make the second level it's own cage, like I had in the past. It seems like my new guy and Gwennie are getting along okay through the grids and I plan on neutering him so he can be with her and also because he's beginning to have impaction issues. I think he's about 3 years old. I'm pretty sure I will be going to see the two pigs tomorrow during the day.
What do you all think of this plan? |

I brought the two boys home yesterday! I forgot to take photos today so I just snapped a couple tonight. They came with the names Ben (the abby) and Jerry (the himi). I don't know if I'll keep those names yet. You can't see it in the photo, but Jerry has a long kind of skirt in back, while his hair in medium in front:
I managed to get a cute one of 'Sammy', too:
'Jerry' is my first three pound piggie! He's 3lbs 2oz and 'Ben' is 2lbs 3oz. The former owner was very nervous about clipping their claws and so they were very long. Jerry's were long but not too bad, but Ben's were awful. There were a few that were quite curved and two that curled all the way around and were starting to poke his paw. I took photos- I've never seen claws like that in person before.
The poor woman really did try her best. She was the first to admit that she was finding them new homes because she realized they were much more work than she had thought. She kept saying how she was glad they were going to a home with someone who knew so much about guinea pigs. |
